Artist Statement

Medium becomes the message by painting with my own expired breast milk as I weaned my toddler. I played with the effects of water color pigment, white crayon and salt on the milk. Then I baked the paintings transforming the translucent white milk into the creamy brown hues. Finally, through the medium of collage, I created new forms and relationships between mother and child. The maternal body either from exhaustion, ambivalence or acceptance, takes the yoga posture referred to as “child’s pose” mirroring the posture of her sleeping baby in the background.
